Six Must-Have Fragrances for a Scentimental Summer

Oh, summer is nearly upon us. Well, here in Florida it actually started in February, but for the rest of you, its just nearly approaching! I love summer not for the heat waves and tangled hair, but for the sense of nostalgia it brings to me every time I take a walk along the salty beach, or catch a whiff of tanning lotion. Certain scents can really bring you back to another time or place. And that's part of the reason I've become so into fragrances as I've aged.

My love for a good fragrance didn't come until I really reached adulthood. Actually my little sister was perfume obsessed (and I'm pretty sure she still is) and that's kind of where my desire to even use perfume started. I've graduated in the fragrance department from my early Bath & Body Works body spray days, and while I'm no collector or connoisseur, I do love a good fragrance! I'm a big fan of a lot of different scents, but today I thought I'd share with you guys some scents I really love rocking during the summer time. These fragrances are light and breezy, with light floral and earthy notes perfect for summer! Hopefully you can find one you like, that will leave you feeling extra scentimental this season..

1. Raw Spirit Eau de Parfum, Wild Fire

This is probably my number one go-to perfume. Originally picked this little guy up at Anthropologie, but now I save myself a trip and/or shipping by ordering through Amazon Prime. This scent is so natural and nearly impossible to overdo. It's such a simple yet pretty fragrance, and is a big hit for jasmine and ylang ylang lovers. I wear this one nearly everyday and it never disappoints.

2. Maison Martin Margiela 'Replica' Beach Walk

My date night scent, or just when I'm feeling a little bit fancier than usual. I love this perfume mainly because I feel it expands on some of my favorite notes and includes: Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Ylang Ylang, Lemon, Coconut Milk, Heliotrope, Musk, Cedarwood, and Benzoin. It's such a fresh and freeing scent, and truly does replicate your favorite beach scent. It reminds me of the many sun kissed walks I've taken down the beautiful beaches of Grand Cayman.

3. Daisy Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs Eau De Toilette Spray

Writing this is so hard because not too long ago I called this the 'Basic A** B****' perfume because it seemed like every girl on the planet was wearing it. Well, slap some on my wrist one time and next thing you know, I'm a 'B.A.B' too. I'll wear the title proud because this perfume has really become one of my regular staples, and it's also my man's favorite of the bunch. Now excuse me while I go put my foot in my mouth. Ha!

4. Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia Perfume

Seriously guys, this perfume smells soooo good and is soooo inexpensive! This is my favorite when I want to go more floral and less earthy with my scent. Plus it's vegan and cruelty-free, so heyyyy.

5. Holland Park - Royal Apothic Mini Eau de Parfum

I picked up a bottle of this a few years ago in Asheville and have been hooked ever since. Another really pretty floral scent with notes of Lemon, Magnolia, and Peach, middle notes of Jasmine, Orange Blossom, and Lily of the Valley, over a base of powdery White Musk. I get compliments every single time I'm wearing this one!

6. Kate Spade Live Colorfully Eau de Parfum

Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a Kate Spade junkie. Michael can attest to this as he's been suckered into purchasing me many the Kate Spade watch. I love this Live Colorfully fragrance because it smells so sweet! It has a coconut water base (perfect for summer) and has the prettiest combination of Mandarin, Pink Water Lily, Star Anise, Golden Gardenia, Tiaré Flower, Sheer Amber, Musk, and Tahitian Vanilla notes.

To top it all off, these scents have all seemed to pass my skin's pesky test. As someone who suffers from extremely sensitive skin, it's very rare that I can find scents and skincare products that don't cause me irritation. These ones though, I'm keeping around!

The Best Products to Minimize Your Makeup Routine

Many who have known me for while may be surprised to discover that something has seriously changed in my beauty routine. My days of waking up and spending an hour and a half on my face are over. I’m happier than ever and finally beginning to feel so comfortable in my own skin that I don’t feel the need to ‘cake it all on’ anymore, so to speak. And I’m busy. Like REALLY busy. My feelings about myself have changed, my priorities have changed, and the amount of time I have in a given day to spend on getting ready has certainly changed. So I’ve made some changes to my beauty routine accordingly.

I used to be the kind of person who literally wouldn’t walk out the door without nearly a full face of makeup on. Funny how things change. Now nearly half of my days are spent without any on at all, and I like that. You start to realize after a while that you don’t need it. It is however something I still enjoy doing. So for my work days, or when I feel like doing something a little extra with myself-I’ve come up with a quick little fix for feeling pretty, yet still minimal. Here’s some cool tips I’ve come up with to simplify your beauty routine and some of my favorite products to complete the task. Stay looking beautiful without the extra unnecessary fluff.

Untitled #10

1. I’ve skipped the foundation, and am now grabbing a great concealer. Seriously. It’s saving me time, and has me feeling overall more natural throughout the day. I don’t look in the mirror after a ten-hour work day just to discover I have a half-melted face. I just look like me. I’m a big fan of Dermablend and have been using many of their products for several years now, but their Quick Fix Concealer is by far my favorite product they’ve produced. I can’t stress enough how great the coverage and wear is in this concealer. It comes in stick form, so its easy to apply as needed without all the extra product waste. I just swipe it right under my eyes and in any little blemished areas, and buff it out with my stippling brush. So simple.

2. I moved on to a powder that does work. Oil control is probably the number one issue I have whenever it comes to cosmetics. I’ve tried every matte foundation, oil-free moisturizer- you name it. But Mario Badescu’s Special Healing Powder is the one product I’ve used thats got me noticing a difference in the appearance of my skin throughout the day. It’s a sulfur based powder that helps to absorb excess oil and reduce the appearance of blemishes and redness AND helps to rid your skin of them! This stuff is amazing and only $12!

3. My blush is no longer just blush. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about makeup, its that you can do a lot with a little. Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush is great for a soft sweep of color across the cheeks, but another trick I love to use with this gorgeous shade is to swipe just a bit right into the crease of my eyelids. This creates a beautiful eye-opening effect on the eye and also ties the whole face together, creating a light natural look.

4. Grab a highlighter that’s a twofer. When I first went to pick out my most recent highlighter I nearly grabbed a liquid highlighter. I’m certainly glad that I didn’t, because I now only go to grab my highlighter because it doubles as my favorite lid color! I sweep some across my lids, cheekbones, along the bridge of my nose, and on my cupids bow and call it a day. I’m a big fan of the NARS Miss Liberty Highlighting Blush, which is a really neutral shade with just a wee bit of shine and pretty perfect for all skin tones!

5. Finish it all off with a non-clumping mascara! Nothing says not-natural like a wad of clumped lashes. After much trial and error I’ve finally found a mascara that doesn’t leave my lashes looking chunky. Benefit has come up with the perfect formula to create a long, soft, enhanced looking lash with their new Roller Lash Curling Mascara. The wand is small with tiny firm bristles that evenly coat and separate lashes to prevent from clumping. It’s truly a life-saver.

Going more minimal with your look doesn’t mean you have to feel undone. And just because you choose to wear makeup, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your time.    Whether you’re looking to cut down your time in front of the mirror, or even just looking to find a quick routine to get you feeling pretty without all the extra muck- tying these tips into your morning make-up time can make quite the difference. The Ultimate Fresh Face: Your New Favorite Skin-Care Routine

I don’t mean to brag, but lately my skin has been looking and feeling awesome! It seems I’ve finally gotten a regimen down that works and I couldn’t be more happy. It’s been a long time coming! I’ve struggled for a long time with skin issues. Acne has overtaken my skin and left me suffering for years. I’ve been on an oily/dry skin rollercoaster. I’ve been disappointed by product after product. But finally after careful trial and error it seems I’ve succeeded in finding a routine that really works for me. My acne issues are for the most part at bay.  My skin no longer feels dull or dry. I’m not flooded with oil at the end of my day. I’m no longer embarrassed of leaving the house without makeup on. I can finally say I have normal radiant skin!

It’s a good feeling to be confident in your own skin and I want you to feel that way too, so I’ve compiled a list of seven of my favorite skin care products that have helped me to achieve the skin I’m in!

1    Origins Well Off® Fast And Gentle Eye Makeup Remover 150ml

Recommended for dry, normal, or oily skin; this makeup remover works for everyone. I was first turned onto the Origins brand during a trip to Sephora. I make a huge attempt to keep the products that I use on my skin natural, so of course I was thrilled to try this line that not only boasts natural and certified organic ingredients, but are also free from parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, PABA (para-amino-benzoic acid), petroleum, paraffin, DEA (Diethanolamine) and animal ingredients. I have a wide array of products from the Origin line, but their Well Off Makeup Remover remains my favorite. Eye irritation is a consistent issue for me when using a lot of eye makeup removers. Between the extra rubbing and getting product in my eyes, it’s a recipe for disaster. However with Well Off, I’m not required to rub excessively to remove excess makeup and the formula is extremely gentle on my eyes. I’m in love! Not to mention its ophthalmologically tested, meaning your eye doctor approves!

2. Aveda Tourmaline Charged Skin Refiner, 3.4 Ounce

This is the Aveda-girl in me speaking! As many of you know I’m a licensed cosmetologist with an Aveda background. It’s been quite a while since I ventured outside of my Aveda roots, but one thing that’s never changed since I left the institute is my love for the products! Skin care especially! The Radiant Skin Definer features finely-powdered tourmaline for gentle yet EXTREMELY effective exfoliation.  Just don’t over do it on the scrubbing! It’s got some serious grit!

3. Herbivore Botanicals – All Natural Pink Clay Exfoliating Facial Mask

I often find myself in a bad habit of buying products based on how they smell.  That’s how I came across this Herbivore gem! Something about the combination of the rose and chamomile did me in! Luckily, I found that this clay mask not only smells incredible, but it also works wonders! This mask aids in the removal of dull surface skin and leaves my skin feeling so soft and smooth. I love that it’s powder based too, so I can mix as much as necessary without wasting product. It’s also ideal for my sensitive skin, as it does not irritate it.

4. Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner, 8 oz.

One of my closest friends, Ashley turned me on to all of the magic that is Mario Badescu, and since then it’s turned into quite an obsession. Of all the products I own, these are the products that fill most of my shelves. My favorite by far is the Glycolic Acid Toner, an anti-aging toner that helps to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Although I don’t quite have them yet, I’m always trying to prevent them from coming! This toner really keeps my skin feeling bright and it somehow keeps my hormonal acne issues in check also.  It’s formulated for combination/dry skin, but find it works perfectly for my oily complexion. I’ve learned throughout the year that oily skin is really only a result of over-drying, so by treating my oily skin as if it were dry skin, I evade the problem!

5. Herbivore Botanicals – All Natural Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist (4 oz)

Oh how I love a good face mist! And this one smells incredible! I feel like a good facial mist is a staple part of skin care routines that often-times gets passed over. I use facial mist as a preparation for my moisturizer. Any type of lotion or moisturizer absorbs better if the skin is first damp. Herbivore’s Rose Hibiscus face mist pre-hydrates the skin, softens, and regulates pH levels giving you a clean slate before moisturizing. It perfectly revives any moisture lost during exfoliation. It’s also a pleasant burst of moisture, and a great pick-me-up throughout the day!

6. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer-1.7 oz.

The most important part of the beauty regimen: the moisturizer! My mother couldn’t preach this enough to me growing up and I’m thankful for it. With all luck I’ll look as good as she does one day when I’m older! I love this moisturizer because it’s fragrance free. For some wild reason moisturizers with added fragrance cause my skin to go bonkers. This one is soft, gentle, and the moisture withstands the day.

7. Mario Badescu Glycolic Eye Cream, 0.5 oz.

Another Mario Badescu of course, this  Glycolic eye cream is my nightly must! I deeply believe that preventative skin care is the ONLY way to reduce signs of aging. Once the damage is done, it’s done. That’s why I work hard to take care of my skin so I never have to regret not taking proper care of it. My future self thanks me. This eye cream is used best as a nightly treatment. It’s vitamin E and glycolic acid base really aid in keeping eyes moisturized and youthful looking.

There you have it friends. Seven of my all time favorite products to achieving beautiful, visibly radiant, glowing skin. But you know me, I’m a beauty product junkie! So if you have recommendations for me I’d love to hear them! I’m always on the hunt for new wholesome skin care products! What works for you?  Fill me in using the comment section below!
